Suit says Michael Jordan is father of woman's son

Celebrities are often at the center of legal controversies that they have contributed to themselves - many people in New Jersey realize this. But a recent filing in a family law court has a former NBA superstar filing for dismissal of a lawsuit. According to reports, a woman is claiming that Michael Jordan is the father of her 16-year-old son. She wants him to take a paternity test and begin contributing financially to her son's life.

In the suit, the mother asks that Jordan be required to pay child support and share costs for any medical and dental costs not covered by health insurance. She is also seeking a reissue of the teen's birth certificate with his last name being legally changed to Jordan. Reports indicate that little evidence is necessary for a paternity test to be required of a man in the state where the filing was submitted because it is a saliva test - nothing invasive.

Still, Jordan has filed for the dismissal of the suit. Divorce filings were submitted with Jordan's response to the paternity suit. Those divorce documents state that the paternity of the teen was already established. His father is another man that was married to the teen's mother until 2003 when the divorce documents were filed. In that filing, Jordan's attorneys noted that the woman filing the paternity suit signed and stated that the father of the teen, as listed in the divorce document, was true to the best of her knowledge.

Comments from Jordan's spokesperson indicated that he will defend his reputation and has filed a request for sanctions due to the false claims as listed in the paternity suit. It is unclear what sort of punishment could be applied in this situation.

Few people would be able to clear up such a situation without the assistance of a legal professional, Michael Jordan not excluded. His legal team is likely essential in this case and request for dismissal.
