Why you may deserve alimony

Are you worried about what you're going to do after your divorce from your spouse because you were expecting to have support from him or her for the rest of your life? Maybe you decided not to continue with your own career in New Jersey back when you got married, or maybe you never even went to college because you knew you wouldn't need to work.

If so, it's important to know that you could be entitled to alimony payments in New Jersey. These are given out to make up for the fact that you're losing more than just a partner or a romantic interest; you're also losing the financial support that you were counting on.

It's about more than just your lifestyle and what you can afford. The process also takes into account how you may have changed your life specifically because you were married. You could have been working in a fantastic career, getting promotions and looking at a bright future, but you may have stepped away from that career to help your spouse with his or her career. You never would have made the same choice if you weren't married, and you deserve to be compensated because of it.

On top of that, alimony is often used because there is no going back. You may not be able to jump right back into your old career, so you need compensation to make up for your having given that up forever, a sacrifice you can't take back.

To find out more about how alimony works or why it is used, please take a look at our page as soon as you can.
